Caelen had a rough night, and a roller coaster day so far, but he's ok. The nurse and medical team keep telling us that it is to be expected, and they aren't worried. It's hard to watch him so miserable, but again, it is to be expected. Still, I don't like it. They don't want to keep sedating him if they don't have to. That being said, they have had to sedate him a few times today when he has woken and gotten very agitated. He tries to pull of the oxygen and tries to pull at his lines.
But, he has also woken today at times and been good. He is talking a little when he wakes, either saying that he wants water, or he's watching Monsters. He also says that he's done and he wants to go. So, appropriate neural responses for a toddler post op. We have let him drink from his sippy cup a few times, but he tries to guzzle the 2 ounces he's allowed over an hour. So it's best to try and keep him asleep.
It's still a balancing act and our nurse is getting her workout. Please keep Caelen in your prayers. Specifically that his heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen sats return to normal.
Thank you

Many prayers for you, Martin, and Caelen in the coming days. Jaclyn had a tough time with pain as well. They've seen all those meds numerous times before so it takes more and more to keep them happy and sedated. Praying that he's able to relax and rest. Each surgery offers up it's own challenges but having a toddler in the hospital is tough....period. Lots of prayers coming your way.
ReplyDeleteWe are praying every minute for you all :) Hang in there buddy, love ya! Uncle Chris :)
ReplyDeleteMadeleine's monitor numbers were unstable the day after surgery as well, but eventually settled down. We know how much it tears you up to see your child in pain when there is nothing you can do; but each day it should get a little bit better...praying for relief to come to Caelen as fast as possible for you guys!

Praying for a peaceful recovery for Caelen. These first 48 are the roughest, hoping that he rebounds and recovers quickly and smoothly. It's really too bad that they havn't figured out a way to make Ketamine bring on Smurfs or friendly kangaroos. I think the toughest thing for our kiddos, aside from the pain, is dealing with the narcotics. I'll be praying for his strength and strong will to help him get further and further away from needing those dang meds.
ReplyDeleteYou guys hang in there. Thank you so much for posting updates.
Sending all our love...and toe fives!
XOXO
